The beautiful beachfront community of Englewood is located on the Cape Haze Peninsula, at the south end of Sarasota County and the west end of Charlotte County. The "Gem of the Suncoast" boasts four beautiful beaches with 27 miles of shoreline. The year-long warm and sunny climate invites fishing, boating, scuba diving, birding, manatee and dolphin watching, as well as golfing and tennis. Lemon Bay offers many quiet inlets and paths for kayaking and canoeing.
As evidenced by archeological finds, the Calusa Natives made this area home centuries ago. In 1884 Herbert Nicholas and his two brothers from Englewood, Illinois, settled here to grow lemons. After freezes killed the citrus trees the brothers gave up on the lemon business but the names Englewood and Lemon Bay stuck!
