"Yesterday's Dream, Today's Reality, Tomorrow's Promise"
Welcome to North Port, Florida! North Port is located midway between Sarasota and Fort Myers. It is the 5th largest city in Florida, with an area of 77 square miles, but only 10% of its land is populated! This translates into a natural, peaceful, but emerging corner of Southwest Florida. Money magazine named it the "#1 Best Place to Live in the South" for two consecutive years.
The city of North Port was established in 1959 and still retains its historic district, East Fort King St. Many buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Marion Theater, the Coca Cola Building, and the Union Train Station.
The Myakka River State Park offers camping, fishing, canoeing, and miles of hiking trails. The Myakka River has been given the distinction of "Florida Wild and Scenic River," one of only two in the state. It is a nature-lover's dream, a wonderful example of "natural" Florida. North Port boasts 1,000 acres of State Parks and 8,000 acres of State Forests, as well as two golf courses. It is only 20 minutes (12 miles) to the Gulf of Mexico.
Most of North Port's available homes are relatively new. North Port has some of the lowest prices for these newer or "never-lived-in" homes in Southwest Florida. Many are waterfront, enjoying the fishing and boating that comes with the 95 miles of freshwater canals. This charming area is attracting families as well as retirees. The city's goal is to maintain a healthy balance between residential, commercial, and industrial growth.
